Mahomes’ father is on five-year probation after spending ten days in jail in September.
The father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Patrick Mahomes Sr., was sentenced to 10 days in jail, five years of probation, and one year of “intense supervision” last September after entering a guilty plea to his third DWI offense, as you may remember. With a blood alcohol content of 0.23 when he was arrested in February, a few days before the Super Bowl game against the San Francisco 49ers, Mahomes Sr. was also subject to required AA classes, a one-year license suspension, and a breathalyzer ignition device on his vehicle. Despite the legal consequences, he still hopes to continue attending his son’s games, though it remains uncertain if he will be allowed to travel outside Texas and hasn’t seen him in the five unbeaten gamesthe Chiefs have played this season.
The arrest, which happened one week prior to Super Bowl LVIII, has finally been captured on camera. In the video, Pat Mahomes Sr. is seen talking to the officer while handcuffed in the back of a police vehicle. “My son is getting ready to play in the Super Bowl. This is not possible at this time. He responds, “I mean, I can have someone come get me.” In the entire video, the officer calmly and professionally tells Mahomes Sr. why he was arrested and that he is just carrying out his duties, which is accurate. Even though Mahomes Sr. seems intoxicated, he maintains his composure and seems to understand that things could have gone worse.

Consequences and Fame’s Perils
As previously stated, Mahomes Sr. received a sentence of five years of probation, ten days in jail, and a year of “intense supervision.” There are benefits to being a close friend or relative of a top athlete, such as Patrick Mahomes, but there are drawbacks as well, such as having to live under constant media scrutiny. Although they are not required to perform flawlessly at all times, the truth is that any bad deeds, even those that don’t appear to be obviously destructive, might have consequences. As evidenced by the legal issues that Patrick Mahomes’ father and brother Jackson Mahomes faced this year, as well as the translator of Shohei Ohtani, these consequences are regrettably frequently more severe for those who are directly affiliated with well-known individuals.
