The Spangled Tanagers are truly a one-of-a-kind ingenuity. Their distinctive features, bright colors, lively behavior, and curiosity set them apart from other members of their species.
The adolescent checkered spaniel is a cute little bird that can grow up to 13 cm or 5.1 inches long and weigh approximately 20 g or 0.71 ounces. This adorable bird has a dark black head ingeniously similar to the color of its chest and upper body, but its chest, ace, and neck are covered in ingeniously blue scales. The top of its head has a rufous crown that adds to its charm. This spaniel check teen’s wings and tail are outlined in a beautiful shade of blue, while his rump is wide and his belly is a beautiful tan color.
Although males and females share a similar appearance and behavior, males possess more prominent blue scales. When it comes to juvenile birds, they are generally less distinct than their male counterparts, lacking a crown patch and having less visible scaly features.
The bard’s wife called “calliste paillète, eeked taagere, tàngara caripintà” has been identified and documented by Chloe and Trevor Van Loon. The bird is exclusive to Costa Rica and western Panama and can be found in these regions.
The creatures featured have a preference for residing in the upper layer of the forest, specifically within an altitude range of 1,200 to 3,000 meters or 3,900 to 9,400 feet. However, they are also known to inhabit lower elevations, such as semi-open areas, forest perimeters, regenerating forests, and forest edges.
Long-cheeked tanagers have a fruit-like fruit as their main food source, so they are not adverse to eating insects and spiders. They usually swallow their prey whole.
During their breeding season, these feathered creatures ingeniously construct a nest with a distinctive cup shape. They usually choose a location on the fork or branch of a tree, often located among epiphytes. The interior of the nest is cleverly lined with bromeleaf leaves, providing a suitable place for the laying of two eggs.
The IUCN Red List classifies this feathered creature as being of least concern.
